JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Thursday signed an agreement with Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO) to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that represent 60 percent of the activities of JCCI members.

Under the agreement, SASO will provide technical and consultancy services for the success of SMEs and enhance the skills and capabilities of small businessmen who run such projects.

“SASO will also give lectures and organize seminars for private sector investors on standards and specifications and quality systems as part of its efforts to develop the skills of owners of SMEs,” said a JCCI statement.

Mustafa Sabri, secretary-general of JCCI, said the agreement would help small businessmen to apply quality systems and standards in their enterprises.

Nabeel Mulla, director general of SASO, commended the Jeddah chamber for its important role in supporting small and medium enterprises.

“We’ll work out a suitable methodology to apply quality in SMEs and provide experts to do that job,” he said.

Bandar Natto, manager of SMEs at the chamber, said his department would do its best to strengthen SMEs and provide every support to new entrepreneurs.

The signing ceremony was attended by Fouzi Hakeem, director of SASO in Makkah province.
